Blender: Spitfire Plane Animation
This small animation was made for a course that teaches the fundamentals of the Blender 3D modeling program. In this project specifically we were to both model and texture a Spitfire plane, as well as animating it to fly over a small city scene.
The final Animation
Modeling the Plane
First, I learned how to model the airplane mostly using the extruding tool, edge loop tool, as well as moving the vertices and edges of the polygons I was using, as well mostly using a template to more accurately model the airplane.
After successfully modeling the airplane, I used UV mapping to texture the model and make it look more like a spitfire airplane.
Spitfire Image used for the texture.
Modeling the village
After modeling and texturing the airplane I then quickly modeled as well as textured a small village for the plane to fly over, using a few images I found on a few free texture websites.
Textures used for the buildings and barrels in the village.
Animating the scene
After animating the village, I animated the propeller moving on the plane as well as making sure they stuck together using parenting. And finally, I animated the plane flying over the city using keyframes as well as adding some lighting and a dynamic sky background.
Reflection
This project was quite fun to do! It taught me a lot about blender overall from aspects of modeling, to texturing, and even some animation.
